Springfield

Being headquartered in Illinois, we might sound biased when we say that Springfield is a must-see destination for students—but it’s really true! Learn why you and your students should experience this often-overlooked state capital and education-packed destination.

  1. You can see—and learn—a lot in a small amount of time. Get some big city vibes without actually being in the big city. Whether admiring some Frank Lloyd Wright architecture or enjoying one of the many attractions in the city that are closely rooted in U.S. history, you won’t need to block off a ton of time to enjoy all that Springfield has to offer.

  2. It’s in close proximity to major destinations. An hour and a half north of St. Louis and three hours south of Chicago, Springfield is an attainable day trip worth taking. Whether your trip starts or ends in Springfield, you’re never too far from the big city lights, making your options almost endless.

  3. History is alive and well there! The world of Abraham Lincoln is at student’s fingertips in Springfield! The 16thS. President’s hometown offers students a chance to visit the Governor’s Mansion, Lincoln’s home, the Old and New State Capitol, New Salem Village & State Park and more. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is a must-see.

  4. There’s no shortage of excitement. Every trip needs some fun. Students can take in a Broadway show under the stars, enjoy the nostalgia of a drive-in movie, play a round of glow golf, ride go-karts at Knight’s Action Park and fly high at Sky Zone—just to name a few options.
